West Brook House

Grade 11* Arts And Crafts House

The project required the preparation of a Conservation Report to a high level of accuracy that investigated all aspects of significance and therefore enabled a scholarly approach to any proposals of conservation alteration, reinstatement and extension. The methodology advocated by English Heritage was adapted for this project, with concurrent consideration given to a proposal for development, major repair and/or restoration.

The new swimming pool enclosure was designed by others to blend with the old yet stand out as a twenty-first century work as advocated by English Heritage and The Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings.

The philosophy and vision was, therefore, to preserve and enhance the existing heritage aspects of the building whilst upgrading services and service areas to the highest 21st century standards, in a manner and philosophy that was consistent with the original construction.
