Major remodelling of this interesting listed cottage initially received local authority resistance. Alterations were proposed and resistance overcome by formulating an intuitive design and submitting a series of sketches for a pre-application consultation with the council. We were able to establish that remodelling preserved the ancient fabric of this beautiful building.
On site negotiations ensued with additional energy saving measures, traditional building materials and techniques included as part of the application.
The scheme was finally completed near the end of 2009 and included a wood pellet burner and a solar thermal panel to provide both carbon neutral space heating and hot water, with a series of water buckets to provide water for toilets etc and of course extra insulation.
