Eco Alterations in a Conservation Area

A radical alteration was required for this two up two down cottage to add a further bedroom and also increasing the overall perceived space in each room. To create the headroom required for a further loft space the bedroom ceilings were lowered at the central supporting wall. At the eaves the ceilings were completely removed to bring the remaining portion of the unused loft space into the bedrooms.

A new flat roofed leaded dormer to light this new bedroom required planning consent, which was only granted at appeal. Folding sliding oak doors were installed in the old outhouse to create a new study area with an over insulated oak floor that incorporated underfloor heating.

A new purpose built solid oak shaker kitchen was installed which housed all the mod cons, again with an over insulated slate floor. All undertaken using traditional building techniques and materials.
